3P finds a solution to limit critical leakage on valves

3P – Performance Plastics Products, company specialized in High Performance Plastics solutions for demanding applications, reveals the X4502, a PEEK-based grade with optimized sealing properties for valve seats, specially designed for highly volatile liquids and gases like helium.

3P has strongly invested in developing its Xytrex® range, a range of thermoplastic materials with wide applications in fluid handling systems. This range is available as parts or as basic shapes mainly for pump bearings and valve seats in petrochemical industry. Amongst the new grades available, Xytrex® 4502, also known as X4502, offers high inherent sealing performance.

This PEEK matrix is compounded directly by 3P, with proprietary fillers. The fine structure of the filler within the semi-crystalline thermoplastic allows a diminution of the usually inherent microporosity. By adapting the transformation process and the filler, the crystalline structure of X4502 reached an optimal and the resulting material has extremely low permeation compared to virgin PEEK.

X4502 is then particularly dedicated for applications requiring “near zero” leakage. On top of that, the selected materials allow very good chemical resistance, high thermal stability and excellent tribological properties.

X4502 has already been unveiled to main partners during Achema 2018 and is already fully commercially available.
