Fives has signed a contract for the delivery of a Pillard NOVAFLAM® evolution for a new production line in a French cement plant looking to decrease energy consumption and increase ASF use for the decarbonization of their operation. The goal of this cement player is to produce clinker (the main component of cement) using the lowest amount of energy and having that energy produced mainly by alternative fuels (ASF) which have a neutral carbon footprint. ASF is made out of components such as biomass, solid waste, used oil, and a liquid solvent.
Fives’ equipment reliability as well as the Group’s capacity to work on large projects reassured the customer to sign on with the combustion teams in Marseille, France.
Fives’ burner, the Pillard NOVAFLAM® evolution is the perfect fit to meet the specific requirements for this project. Indeed, the 65 MW burner has the capacity to maximize the use of ASF while minimizing the use of fossil fuels such as natural gas and pulverized coal or petcoke. As a result, Fives’ customer will decrease their energy consumption, and reduce NOx emissions while increasing clinker quality.
This state-of-the-art burner will be delivered with its accessories (valve trains, pumping systems) as well as precalciner burners for the production of clinker. Additionally, Fives will supply a 35MW Pillard hot gas generator operating on natural gas and with a large turn-down ratio (1-10), able to cope with the plant’s requirements for a bigger variation range.
