NEXTCHEM (MAIRE) awarded a PRE-FEED by ENGIE

MAIRE announces that NEXTCHEM (Sustainable Technology Solutions BU), through its subsidiary NextChem Tech, has been awarded a new contract by ENGIE to carry out a PRE-FEED for the gasification and methanation of the waste wood as well as the implementation of a carbon capture unit for the Salamandre project in the Normandy region.

This award follows the successful completion of the advanced basic engineering study for the gasification of the waste wood and the purification system of the syngas to produce 2nd generation biomethane, which was announced in April 2023. NextChem’s scope also includes the preliminary evaluation and estimate of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction activities for the full gasification and methanation package of the project, including the relevant utilities and ancillary units, which will be considered as part of the Client’s Final Investment Decision.

The plant is expected to produce 20MW equivalent of bio-methane. The methane, produced through pyro-gasification of waste wood, will be injected into the grid, representing one of the first industrial projects of its kind in the world.
