Norway launches CCUS Innovation cluster to accelerate carbon capture deployment

Norway has launched its latest national innovation cluster, CCUS Innovation, uniting the country’s leading actors in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). The initiative aims to strengthen collaboration across technology developers, emitters, and investors, accelerating the deployment of commercially ready CCUS solutions.

“CCUS Innovation unites two of Norway’s strongest CCUS communities into one powerful alliance, making it easier for international collaborators to access Norway’s CCUS expertise and form strategic partnerships,” said Francesco Finotti, Manager of the new cluster.

Established under the Norwegian Innovation Clusters (NIC) programme, a government-funded initiative run by Innovation Norway, SIVA, and the Research Council of Norway, CCUS Innovation seeks to drive innovation-driven growth, sustainability, and global competitiveness in Norwegian industry.

The cluster merges CCUS Norway (managed by Carbon Limits) and CCS Innovation (managed by SINTEF), bringing together 69 members from sectors including industry, finance, technology, research, test facilities, and advisory services.

Norway has a long legacy in CCUS innovation, from SINTEF’s pioneering work on CCS in the 1980s to the launch of Northern Lights in 2025, the world’s first commercial CO₂ transport and storage project. Industrial emitter Hafslund Celsio will actively participate in the cluster, further enhancing collaboration across the CCUS value chain.
