Competitive Power Ventures Inc. (CPV) has applied for a Special Use Permit in Fluvanna County, Virginia, to build a high-efficiency electric generating facility in the Nahor area of the county. The plant will produce about 520 MW of electricity using combined-cycle technology, which generates electricity with both a gas turbine and a steam turbine. The Cunningham Creek plant will run primarily on clean-burning natural gas. The plant will use air-cooled condensers, which both eliminate visible plumes and use about 96% less water than a comparably sized wet-cooled project would require. Also, the turbines will be totally enclosed inside a building to reduce noise levels.
