Bypassing the Bosphorus

Greek and Bulgarian leaders Monday promised to overcome delays in a
pipeline project to transport Russian crude oil to the two Balkan
neighbours. The 178-mile pipeline would link the ports of Burgas in
Bulgaria and Alexandroupolis in northern Greece, allowing Russia to export
oil through the Black Sea while bypassing the Bosphorus starits in Turkey.
The five-year-old project has been stalled by a wide range of technical and
economic disputes and doubts about its efficiency.
