FCx Thompson Valves (bellows-sealed globe valves, pressure regulators and specialised actuator valves) and Newman Hattersley (high integrity ball, butterfly and bellows-sealed globe valves) have won a multi-million pound orders for reactors 1 and 2 of the Qinshan nuclear power station in China. The station is of the Canadian designed “CANDU” type ordered from Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, with the ultimate customer and end-user being the China National Nuclear Corporation and the Third Qinshan Nuclear Power Company respectively. Qinshan is located 126km SW of Shanghai, and power is expected to be on-stream by 2004. In order to maintain the increasing performance requirements in this demanding application both Thompson and Newman Hattersley have continuously invested in engineering and test resources to ensure state-of-the-art quality control, achieving exact and repeatable production of precision components with designs based on through-life service.
