Valero Energy Corporation (San Antonio, Texas, USA) has awarded Howe-Baker Engineers Ltd (a subsidiary of Chicago Bridge & Iron Company NV) a contract to design and build a 25,000 barrel per day CCR (Continuous Catalytic Regeneration) Platformer(TM) and associated facilities at Valero’s 195,000 BPD refinery in Paulsboro, NJ, USA. In addition to the CCR unit, Howe-Baker’s scope includes a naphtha stripper, revamp of a naphtha hydrotreater, and associated support utilities. Universal Oil Products (UOP), LLC’s proprietary Platforming(TM) technology, is being used for the plant design, which will also incorporate UOP’s latest Cyclemax(TM) CCR and Chlorosorb(TM) technologies for improved emissions control. The facility will produce high-octane products and hydrogen needed as part of Valero’s clean fuels programme. Howe-Baker is executing the project on a complete turnkey basis, including engineering, fabrication and field construction. The plant design uses Howe-Baker’s modularisation concept. The project is scheduled for completion in early 2004.
