DuPont Engineering centenary

DuPont Engineering is marking its 100th anniversary. In 1903, DuPont formed an engineering group to construct manufacturing facilities and inventory its existing assets as the company was expanding its operations and diversifying into new businesses. In the 1930s, DuPont Engineering was applying the new field of chemical engineering to design and develop processes that made production of discoveries including nylon and DuPont Teflon® fluoropolymer possible on a commercial scale. The design and construction of the first rayon plant in the USA, the first cellophane plant and the first nylon plant were DuPont Engineering projects. DuPont engineering designed the machinery and processes to manufacture neoprene, nylon, Teflon® fluoropolymer, and other DuPont discoveries and products. Today, the organisation continues to apply science and technology to emerging products and processes.
