FCX Truflo Rona, part of the global flow control group FCX International, is set to play a major role in the construction of the world’s first LPG-FPSO vessel. The company has been awarded a major contract by contractors IHI for the manufacture of low-temperature, top-entry ball valves for use in the liquid and vapour gas lines on-board the vessel. Both manual and remote (hydraulic) operated valves will be supplied in sizes up to 200mm diameter and ANSI 150lb and 300lb pressure ratings. Ishikawajima – Harima Heavy Industries Co. Ltd and Mitsui & Co. Ltd of Japan were contracted to build the LPG-FPSO vessel by Single Buoy Mooring Inc. of Monaco. The vessel will be used for the Sanha Condensate Project at the Cabinda Block-0 located off Angola. The project is operated by a group consisting of Sonangol (Angola), ChevronTexaco, TotalFinaElf and Agip. A joint venture company formed by Single Buoy Mooring Inc. and Sonangol will operate the vessel. When it is delivered in 2004 the LPG FPSO will serve the Angolan Sanha condensate complex north of the Congo River and will increase LPG production in the area. The FPSO vessel, which will have a daily production capacity of liquefied petroleum gas [LPG] of 6,000cm and a storage capacity of 135,000cm, will be built at the IHI Kure Shipyard.
