Australian ammonia plant

Burrup Fertilizers Pty Ltd has awarded a USD 300 million contract to Montreal-based SNC-Lavalin Inc.’s Australian subsidiary SNC-Lavalin (SA) Inc. for the engineering, procurement, and construction of a 2200tpd, single-train, anhydrous ammonia plant to be built on the Burrup Peninsula in Karratha, Western Australia. The project includes the production plant, utilities, and associated production support facilities. Project management and the co-ordination of engineering will be based out of SNC-Lavalin’s Perth office. Engineering work is under way, and the company expects plant construction to be completed within 30 months, said Roland Boulos, SNC-Lavalin senior project director. Kellogg Brown & Root is providing basic engineering and the technology package for the plant and will also provide technical advisory services during the plant’s erection and commissioning phases. The plant will utilise KBR’s purifier process technology.
