USA: Valero desulphurises

CB&I, through its subsidiary CB&I Matrix, has been awarded a lump-sum turnkey EPC contract by Valero Energy Corporation to engineer and construct a new 60,000 barrel per day (BPD) gasoline desulphurisation unit at Valero’s 185,000 BPD refinery in St Charles, Louisiana. The contract is worth more than USD 60 million. CB&I’s scope includes the design, fabrication and installation of the complete process unit, which will reduce the sulphur content of naphtha feedstock using catalytic distillation technology licensed from CDTECH. The low sulphur gasoline produced by the new unit will enable Valero to better comply with environmental regulations. Mechanical completion is expected in summer 2005.
