Severn Glocon has won major new orders via contractor MODEC to provide fast-stroke valves for two FPSO’s in Brazil. Severn Glocon was asked to design a new valve that could overcome operating issues with bypass valves being used on a compressor. The existing valves, supplied via the compressor OEM, had an insufficiently fast reaction time to stop the compressor going into surge mode. The existing valves were incapable of responding in less than 0.3 seconds, by which time it could be possible for the compressor to surge. A typical reaction time for such valves is 1-2 seconds, but Severn Glocon worked to supply 18 valves that can respond from receipt of signal to being fully open in 150 milliseconds.
