Rotork is supplying GO range gas-over-oil pipeline valve actuators for a Class 300 sour gas gathering system and pipeline owned by the Murphy Oil Company in NE British Colombia, Canada. Ambient seasonal temperatures in the area can fluctuate between +30C and -40C. Twenty Rotork GO actuators have been ordered for the Tupper West Gathering System: three for barrel isolation and 17 for pipeline ESD (emergency shutdown) duties. Rotork GO actuators are designed to use pipeline gas as the power source, making them ideal for the remote geographic location and challenging environment. In this case, a separate sweet fuel gas line provides the power source for the actuators which are also available with control configurations to suit virtually any operational requirement. Speed control in both directions, low- or high-pressure control logic options and hydraulic manual override are among the standard features. With torque outputs up to 600,000Nm, these actuators are certified to IP66M/67M, EX 94/9/EC and in accordance with PED 93/27/EC. Rotork Fluid Systems’ agent in Alberta, C E Franklin, filled the order and fitted the actuators to 16in ASME Class 300 ball valves in its workshop facilities at Edmonton. The project is also utilizing Rotork pneumatic actuators at manned compressor station valve sites.
