Woodside and Ampo’s Poyam Valves division teamed together in February for the urgent replacement of a butterfly valve and one gate valve for the Pluto LNG plant in Australia.
Both valves, previously developed by another company with a different technology, had to be replaced in a short period of time, due to a leakage problem. Ampo, specializing in cast steels, high specification valves and an energy-sector apply engineering service, suggested the installation of two Top Entry Cryogenic Ball Valves of 42in.
Having an own foundry, and being able to offer integrated solutions with a whole control of the production process, Ampo undertook the completion of the valves in a period of 20 weeks.

Despite the size of the valves and the complexity of the project, the schedule was fulfilled, and the inspectors of Shell, have visited Ampo´s headquarters in Spain for the standardization and testing of the valves.
Once the testing was completed, both valves were shipped to Australia in July. Ampo´s engineers will travel to the Pluto LNG plant for the supervision of the assembly.
