Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Qatar Petrochemical Co. (Qapco) have signed a heads of agreement for a 80:20 joint venture, which will produce 1.4 million tonnes per year (t/y) of ethylene, 850,000t/y of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), 760,000t/y of polypropylene, 430,000t/y of linear low-density polyethylene, 125,000t/y of pyrolysis gasoline and 83,000t/y of butadiene. The project would use feedstock from natural gas plants at Ras Laffan. It is targeted for completion by 2018.
