Arc Energy Resources has completed the weld overlay cladding of globe valves from Severn Glocon that are set to be installed in the subsea Manifa oilfield development in Saudi Arabia.
Severn Glocon, a manufacturer of control and choke valves for the oil and gas, LNG and power sectors, faced prohibitive costs associated with the casting of corrosion-resistant alloy valves — the traditional way to protect them from sour, corrosive gases. To overcome this, Arc Energy Resources provided cladding for all internal wetted areas of 24 globe valves with a 4mm-thick layer of a corrosion-resistant nickel-based alloy.
Arc Energy worked with Severn Glocon engineers to develop a geometry that was suitable for cladding. The protective coating could be applied in areas normally considered difficult to clad. Ron Baker of Severn Glocon said the cladding will help ensure its valves meet the most demanding needs of its customers while still being cost effective.
