IBERDROLA INGENIERÍA has awarded the supply contract for the installation of a gas turbine at Germany’s Lichterfelde combined-cycle plant to GE. GE will provide the advanced technology 9F gas turbine as well as operations and maintenance of the turbine for 25 years. The IBERDROLA Group subsidiary was awarded the GBP 240M contract to complete turnkey construction of Lichterfelde power plant in Germany after winning an international tender launched by Swedish energy company Vattenfall.
IBERDROLA INGENIERÍA will be responsible for the project’s entire development, including design, engineering, procurement, construction, assembly and commissioning of the new plant. With its 300MW electricity capacity (the 260MW GE gas turbine plus a 40MW electric turbine) and 225MW thermal capacity, the plant will supply Berlin’s Southwest with electricity and district heating.
The new combined-cycle gas turbine power plant will replace an existing thermal power plant operating on the site since 1974. This initiative is an important part of a climate protection agreement, signed by the Senate of Berlin and Vattenfall to reduce carbon emissions and upgrade the utility’s electricity generation facilities.
