Saint-Gobain installs new automation machine

Saint-Gobain Seals has installed a new automation machine at their Willich, Germany site, which forms and assembles OmniSeal® spring-energized seals. Adding this new equipment not only allows the business to assemble the product in large quantities but also maintain their high standard of world class manufacturing and quality as the automated process creates a much better clean room environment versus what is achieved with a manual assembly process. A key element for this investment was based on the business being able to strategically position itself to meet current and upcoming growth opportunities.

The automation machine manufactures spring-energized seal designs ranging from radial seals (rod seals and piston seals) to Spring II seals that are composed of Saint-Gobain Seals’ proprietary Fluoroloy® materials. One of the very first batches of OmniSeal® seals made were for an industrial paint gun application with plans to create more for other industrial applications such as valves but also fuel pumps and EGR system for the automotive market.

As one of 14 Saint-Gobain Seals global manufacturing sites, the Willich site has been in operation for almost one hundred years, being founded by Max Alfred Pampus in 1919, and one of the first importers of PTFE from the United States.
