AUMA has supplied 49 electric valve actuators featuring the Ethernet/IP communications protocol to a water treatment plant expansion project in Arizona, USA.
The Santan Vista water treatment plant is owned and operated by the cities of Gilbert and Chandler, which lie within the Phoenix metropolitan area. Although the plant is only around 10 years old, demand is rising with the cities’ rapidly growing population. The expansion doubles the plant’s capacity to 48 million gallons per day.
The engineering contractor and the municipality specified Ethernet/IP communications. AUMA was the only actuator manufacturer in the bid who met this requirement, and won the contract. AUMA‘s scope of supply includes the company’s robust and proven SA multi-turn actuators, GS part-turn gearboxes, and SQ part-turn actuators. All actuators are equipped with AC intelligent actuator controls featuring Ethernet/IP interfaces. Commissioning of the actuators was successfully completed in April 2018.
Ethernet/IP is one of the leading standards for Industrial Ethernet communication, offering superior connectivity, real-time capability and enhanced network flexibility. Ethernet/IP also simplifies data transfer across network segments, making it easy to combine with existing Ethernet infrastructure.
AUMA actuators for use in Ethernet/IP environments support easy and flexible integration into virtually any type of network. Ethernet/IP wiring via field-assembled connectors is simple and easy to maintain. Complex termination is not required. With bandwidths up to 100 Mbps, the actuators support reliable and rapid exchange of both cyclic process data and acyclic diagnostic data from the actuators. Ethernet/IP is the third Industrial Ethernet standard that AUMA supports, in addition to Profinet and Modbus TCP/IP.
