AMPO POYAM VALVES is proud to be part of the Qatar North Field East (NFE) LNG Expansion Project, one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) developments. The project is located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, on the northeast coast of the Qatar Peninsula, and is led by QatarEnergy. The EPC contractor for the LNG storage and loading facilities is Samsung C&T.
With a total investment value of USD 28.75bn, the NFE project will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity by 33 million tons per year. Covering an area of 2.7 million square meters—equivalent to 58 Tokyo Dome stadiums—and employing over 45,000 workers at the peak of construction, this expansion will significantly strengthen Qatar’s position as one of the world’s leading LNG producers.
AMPO POYAM VALVES has supplied more than 1,400 highly engineered valves, including manual and on-off ball valves, as well as gate, globe, and check valves in both cryogenic and non-cryogenic designs. These valves will be installed in critical sections of the project, such as LNG loading systems, process and storage piping, and marine infrastructure (QNF Marine Package). Their main purpose is to control LNG and other industrial fluids flow, ensuring safe and efficient operations in loading, storage, and processing systems. Among them, a set of ESDVs (Emergency Shut Down Valves), SDVs (Shut Down Valves), and BDVs (Blow Down Valves) used for safety and process control applications stands out due to their technological complexity and safety relevance.
A particularly demanding part of the project involved the complete HIPPS (High Integrity Pressure Protection System). As part of the project qualification, a comprehensive IFAT (Integrated Factory Acceptance Test) was successfully carried out at AMPO’s facilities in Idiazabal, with the presence of the end user, verifying the correct integration and performance of the entire HIPPS system, and highlighting AMPO’s ability to manage complex testing and qualification procedures in-house.
