Explosion-proof multi-turn and part-turn actuators have been manufactured by AUMA for over 20 years. More than 30,000 units and 17,000 controls have been supplied by the company for specialist “ex-proof” applications around the globe during the past two decades with strong demand from the oil and gas industries. Recent contracts for explosion-proof products include the installation of 21 units, supplied with Profibus DP, to the Atas refinery, Turkey. Additionally, more than 200 AUMA actuators automate valves and gates at one of the biggest gasoline tank farms in Arkhangelsk, Russia. AUMA’s explosion-proof actuators are designed to meet the latest ATEX Directive 94/9/EC for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. A recent re-design further enhanced the company’s “ex-proof ” product range, and certification was confirmed by the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig, Germany. Housing compartments for the actuators are designed with flame-proof enclosure protection. Actuators are also equipped with electrical connections contained within a plug-and-socket mounted separately from the actuator: the advantages of this AUMA design feature are protection and accessibility, as wiring can be reached without disturbing the actuator housing and the actuator can be removed without contacting any cables.
