To withstand the arduous operating conditions, ICI Chlor-Chemicals is using large numbers of Descote bellows sealed globe valves from Tyco Valves and Controls throughout its Liquid Chlorine Manufacturing (LCM) plant in Runcorn. Chlor-Chemicals required a high integrity valve that would provide safe and reliable operation in such hazardous operating conditions, including low temperatures, temperature cycling and the possibility of external corrosion from their outdoor location. In addition to being one of only two valve suppliers with Eurochlor accreditation, the Descote valve was considered ideal for this application as its bellows sealed design minimises the possibility of chlorine leakage, thus ensuring zero fugitive emissions. The valve seat provides bubble-tight shut-off, providing plant operators with a high degree of confidence when the plant needs to be isolated for maintenance.
