Bruce Power and Swagelok Southwestern Ontario have entered into an agreement valued at more than USD 1.5M for new valves for Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program.
The contract is for an order of nearly 400 new valves for the site’s fuel handling trolleys. In total, 160 valves will be replaced in Bruce A and 208 in Bruce B. The new valves will be instrumental in maintaining the reliability of the trolleys, which deliver and insert new fuel into the reactors, while removing used fuel for safe, long-term storage.
Bruce Power supplies 30% of Ontario’s energy at 30% less than the average residential price. Extending the life of the Bruce Power site will ensure decades of low-cost, reliable, baseload electricity for Ontario families and businesses. The Unit 6 Major Component Replacement Project gets underway in 2020 and is part of Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program, which began in 2016 and will extend the life of the Bruce site until 2064.
