Castrol launches new hydraulic control fluid

Castrol has introduced Transaqua SP-HC, a novel hydraulic control fluid within its Transaqua lineup. Engineered specifically for utilization as the control fluid in subsea production control systems, it promises comprehensive protection for subsea production systems.

Transaqua SP-HC is tailored for application in Electro-Hydraulic Multiplex (EH-Mux) or direct hydraulic control systems employed in high-pressure, deep-water gas projects surpassing 20,000 psi, where entrained gas poses a risk of hydrate formation in control lines. It is intended for use across production and workover control systems, encompassing downhole Subsurface Safety Valve (SSSV) and intelligent well completions.

Contamination, corrosion, and temperature fluctuations pose significant challenges for subsea control systems, often leading to system failures. Transaqua SP-HC addresses these issues by providing protection against carbon steel corrosion and accommodating up to 30% seawater contamination. It exhibits excellent stability in the presence of common system contaminants, such as seawater and completion brines, while operating within extreme temperature ranges of -50ºC to +150ºC.

Compatible with materials commonly utilized in subsea control systems following industry-standard API 17F protocols, Transaqua SP-HC can be seamlessly blended with other products in the Castrol Transaqua™ range and other water-based subsea control fluids. This facilitates straightforward retrofit operations without the risk of blockages or unplanned expenses.

To complement the Transaqua SP-HC product, Castrol provides operators with used oil analysis to offer accurate product recommendations, enhancing operational efficiency and reliability.
