China: coal-based chemical project

Jiangshan Chemical Co. Ltd (Jiangshan, China) has signed a framework agreement on 9 April 2008, with the governments of Ordos City and Wushen Banner to build a USD 710 million coal-based chemical base at the cyclic industry park of Wushen Banner, Ordos City, in northern China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Jiangshan Chemical announced on 11 April 2008. According to the agreement, Jiangshan Chemical will build a 1 million-ton-per-annum coal-based methanol device, a 100,000TPA year synthetic ammonia device, a 230,000TPA methylamine device, a 100MW coal gangue combined-heat-and-power device, a 300,000TPA DMF device, a 50,000TPA thousand-ton per year choline chloride device, and products of methylamine. The governments of Ordos Wushen will support Jiangshan Chemical in various aspects, such as land acquisition, power and water supply, environmental capacity quota, and coal resources. Ordos’ government has agreed to allocate 600 million tons of coal resources for the project. The agreement also states that Jiangshan Chemical will mandate qualified designers to conduct detailed a feasibility study for the project immediately. Construction is expected to start within 12 months.
