PSEG Global has reached a financial agreement on a 220 MWe and 500 MWth combined heat and power plant in Chorzow, Poland. The new facility will replace one of the country’s oldest established heat and power generators, Elektrownia Chorzow, which will continue to operate during construction. The total cost for the project is estimated at approximately USD 324 million, with commercial operation targeted for 2003. As has already been announced, Foster Wheeler has been chosen as EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor for the project, which will utilise Foster Wheeler’s advanced circulating, fluidised bed boiler technology. It is anticipated that 60% of the EPC Contract value will be spent in Poland. The project construction is expected to create or secure a total of 1150 local jobs.
