Metrode Products’ new 45% longer Nimrod 625 electrode, which achieves high productivity levels in the downhand/flat or H-V positions, has been designed to improve efficiency when applying corrosion- or heat-resistant cladding to low alloy steels. A typical application has been identified in the offshore industry, where Nimrod 625 is used to put corrosion-resistant overlays on pumps and valves. Manufactured on 350mm (3.2 and 4.0mmØ) or 450mm (5.0mmØ) core wires, this latest 625 variant overcomes the overheating problems usually associated with longer rods, producing high quality weld metal at an exceptional 150% recovery rate. Additional welder-friendly advantages are easy operation (on AC or DC+) with a very smooth arc, excellent bead wetting, and a reliably self-releasing slag. Together these characteristics combine to deliver a level of productivity well above that normally experienced with similar electrodes.
