CORTEC’s new back pressure valve

CORTEC participated this week at LSU’s PERTT Lab in Baton Rouge, La., in a flow loop test of its new Back Pressure Valve design. This design will be incorporated into several deepwater drilling systems this year and will be utilized to provide back pressure downstream of Coriolis flowmeters which will aid in the accurate measurement.
This design was completed in close communication with major operators and drilling contractors to address a need for a back pressure device that could provide full flow capability of larger 7-1/16” bore systems while maintaining original piping system design criteria.
The valve features a 7-1/16” characterized port ball which rotates 90 degrees into the flow stream to the end-users’ desired effect. Shown here with a customer-specified fail open pneumatic actuator and extended adapter spools, this design can be rated up to 5,000 PSI and specified to meet customer desired end connection and actuation methods.
