Doosan Engine has won a record order from the Danish company A.P. Moller Maersk, the world’s largest marine shipper. The W323 billion (approx USD 284.2 million) contract is for the delivery of 120 engines (40 main and 80 auxiliary) to be installed in twenty ultra-large containerships built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. The engines will be mounted inside the world’s first containerships with an 18,330 TCU (20ft container unit) carrying capacity.
The contracted engines represent a total of 2.4 million bhp in output, the largest order ever received since Doosan Engine went into business in 1983. This figure represents about 20% of the company’s annual production volume. The engines will be built at the Changwon factory complex using in-house technology. Delivery is scheduled to begin in November 2012 and to be completed in November 2014.
