Flash technology for flood detection

Flood detection work at the Brettachtal basin in Germany has confirmed the advantages of SIPOS’ 5 flash technology, an actuation solution for challenging flood management projects with remote power supply. Flood detection basins, such as the one at Brettachtal, are frequently located a considerable distance from power supply sources. This leads to a requirement for exceptionally long power supply cables with corresponding problems arising from high current voltage drop or soft-start approaches. These issues are avoided with a SIPOS integrated frequency converter solution. According to Mr Reiner Ernst from ZINK Ingenieure, “When using conventional actuators with long cable runs, high start-up current can cause voltage drop problems which can only be overcome by using expensive voltage compensation techniques or soft start devices. If soft start devices are selected, reduced start-up actuator torque problems and space restrictions in low voltage switching cabinets can be an issue. However, with the adoption of integrated frequency converter technology, the SIPOS 5 flash solution avoids these issues completely, resulting in low start-up currents and providing maximum torque at start-up.” Then SIPOS 5 flash solution is also suitable for outdoor mounting.
