Flowserve Flow Control has manufactured the largest pressure balanced plug valve ever to be made in the UK. The gigantic 24” valve, which is 8 feet long and weighs 9 tons, forms part of a Serck Audco contract to supply 500 Class 1500 plug valves to an oil company in the Middle East. Sour crude oil is pumped from the oilfield to a high-pressure oil and gas gathering. Here the 24” valve, which is electrically actuated, will be used as a header in a new flow line manifold. The user opted for the company’s plug valve because it believed that, compared to other types of valves, it gives a longer life and tighter shut-off under corrosive conditions.
