GE to supply gas-fired turbines in Saudi Arabia

GE said it received a contract to supply eight 7F 5-series gas turbine-generators for the expansion of Saudi Electricity Co.’s (SEC) Riyadh Power Plant 12 (PP12). GE said the project will add nearly 2,000 MW of power to support SEC in meeting its future electricity demands when it enters commercial operation in 2015.

In addition to the supply of the eight gas turbine-generators, the contract includes technical direction for the installation of the units, spare parts, commissioning support and training. PP12 is part of Saudi Arabia’s plans to add 33GW of power generation capacity by 2020. Earlier this year, GE also said it would provide steam turbines for the conversion of SEC’s PP10 project from simple to combined cycle, which will add 1,300MW of new power to the grid.

The 7F 5-series gas turbine is part of GE’s recently launched FlexEfficiency 60 portfolio. The 7F 5-series gas turbines for PP12 will burn natural gas and will be equipped with GE’s latest dry low NOx combustion technology to reduce emissions, extend maintenance intervals and enable the plant to operate more flexibly.
