Glacier appoints non-executive director

Glacier Energy Services has appointed Mike Straughen as a non-executive director. Straughen will support Glacier’s board as the group looks to boost its combined turnover of more than GBP 15M and global staff of 130 people through new business and further acquisition activity. Straughen has been an executive director of Wood Group since 2007, and is currently the chief executive of Wood Group’s Engineering Division, with additional responsibility for the group’s safety and environmental activities.

Glacier provides support to operators and oilfield service companies in the global energy sector across its operational hubs in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Newcastle and Singapore. Glacier’s Engineering division specialises in providing weld overlay solutions as part of the manufacture of subsea production equipment.

Straughen has had a long career in oil and gas, having worked on and offshore, both in the UK and overseas, and was with AMEC for 25 years prior to joining Wood Group, latterly as Group Managing Director responsible for their Global Oil & Gas business, as well as all other UK activities. Straughen was a member of PILOT, the UK Government Oil & Gas Advisory Board, from 2000 to 2007 and was the chairman of the Energy Industry Council from 2002 to 2007.
