GSA to provide EPCM services to VFL

Grimley Smith Associates (GSA) is the first engineering consultancy to be awarded a framework agreement from Vivergo Fuels Limited (VFL) for on-going EPCM services. The framework agreement introduces GSA as a valuable partner to one of Europe’s biggest bioethanol plants and the UK’s largest single source supplier of animal feed.

The Vivergo Fuels plant at Saltend takes feed-grade wheat grown at local farms and processes it into bioethanol and protein-rich animal feed. Once fully operational, the plant will produce 420ML of bioethanol a year as well as the protein required for over 340,000 dairy cows every day – the equivalent of almost 20% of the national dairy herd.

The new framework will enable Vivergo Fuels to utilise the skills and competencies of GSA to deliver on-going development projects on site, which will allow VFL to improve the efficiencies of existing production facilities and maximise its return on investment. Engineering services will be provided on site at Saltend and at GSA’s head office in Brigg, North Lincolnshire.

Matt Gibson, engineering manager at Vivergo Fuels, said, “It’s an exciting time as our GBP 350M plant continues to ramp up production. We are delighted to start a number of development projects across site, with the assistance of an engineering consultancy like GSA.”

Martyn Whiteley, GSA’s operations director, added, “Supporting such a prestigious new investment locally provides GSA with an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Vivergo Fuels and ensures that the expertise and revenue stays within the Humber region.”
