IMI delivers custom HIPPS solution to L&T for Hasbah Gas Field expansion

IMI has supplied Larsen & Toubro (L&T) with four integrated, custom-designed skids as part of a High-Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) for the Hasbah Gas Field expansion project in Saudi Arabia.

The project, led by Saudi Aramco, is a multi-phase development aimed at increasing natural gas supply for domestic and industrial use. The expansion, originally brought online in 2016, will add four new production wells, six wellhead platforms, six topsides, two jackets, and two tie-in float-over platforms, producing an additional 2.5 billion cubic feet of non-associated gas per day.

IMI’s skids feature eight through conduit slab gate valves, four root valves, five pressure transmitters with a manifold, and a solid-state logic solver system with Multiwell Diagnostic Systems for the HIPPS element. The system is engineered to isolate high-pressure and high-temperature sources, enhancing safety for personnel and downstream assets by preventing overpressure and overheating events.

After initial testing by IMI, the HIPPS solution was integrated into production deck modules at L&T’s A.M. Naik Heavy Engineering Complex. Full installation at Hasbah Gas Field was completed in September 2025, with the system expected to be operational by December 2025 following final commissioning.
