Linde AG (Wiesbaden, Germany) has been awarded the contract for the construction of a facility to produce Linear Alpha Olefins from the Jubail United Petrochemical Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC). The contract of the facility, to be constructed in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia, is worth about USD 200 million. The project will be carried out by the Linde subsidiary Linde-KCA-Dresden GmbH, Dresden, in close cooperation with the Linde joint venture LINARCO in Riad. The order encompasses engineering, delivery, assembly/construction and monitoring of the facility and should be completed by mid-2006. The so-called a-SABLIN process (jointly developed by SABIC and Linde) will be used during the implementation. Linear Alpha Olefins can be reused numerous times as intermediate products in the chemical industry. They are used for the manufacture of polyethylene, synthetic lubricants, softeners and detergents, among others.
