Magwen Valves has delivered two 67 tonne valves for Sinopec Engineering for use by Saline Water Conversion Corporation in Phase III of the Yanbu Madina Water Transmission System. The76 inch, class 600 valves have a triple offset full bore design and use patented Magwen technology. They feature a carbon steel construction with a piggable full bore. It is quite possibly the largest and heaviest ever valve of this construction with a total assembled weight of 67 tonnes. They also use two AUMA actuators, synchronized to operate the valve with a torque of 1.08 million Nm. The order also included three 76 inch class 300 valves and two 36 inch class 300 valves.
“This is a proud moment for Magwen, to overcome the many challenges presented for such demanding specifications and to have built these from scratch within 14 months” said Magwen Managing Director Mr Bhowmick Shah. “We would like to take the opportunity to thank all our stake holders, especially our customer, end user and design consultant who had the confidence in Magwen to bring this project to a successful conclusion”.
