AUMA has established a global customer base including a lengthy history supplying its valve control devices for Middle East installations. A commission for over 350 actuators and controls has successfully been completed for the North Doha sewage treatment plant. AUMA’s technology is supporting process controls for the scheme, which is understood to be the largest treatment plant in the Middle East.
The actuators were installed as part of a USD 1.3B project which has resulted in a daily production capacity of 439,000m³ of treated water. The comprehensive project, which is the only sludge plant in Qatar, includes treatment, pumping and distribution of treated water to West Bay, Al Dafna, Al Khorayat and Umm Salal. The scheme is designed to meet the needs of around 900,000 people and to support the region’s demand for the next 30 years.
Environmental factors have played a key role – the treated sludge will be used as organic fertilizer, or as a supplementary source of green energy and an advanced odour control system minimises impact on the surrounding communities.
AUMA’s SA/SAR/AC non-intrusive actuators were supplied. Commenting on the appeal of the actuation technology’s adaptable design, Mr Lee Choon How, a site project engineer for the contractor, Keppel Seghers said “This is not the first time we have selected AUMA products for a major installation in the Middle East. The unique modular design of the actuation technology is very user friendly – we are delighted that the devices have been installed to aid operation of the plant.”
