Meter prover for Snohvit condensate

A 30-inch bi-directional meter prover supplied by Skeltonhall Limited of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK, is on its way to the Statoil LNG plant at Melkoya Island outside Hammerfest in northern Norway. The contract was placed with Skeltonhall by Holta and Haland Instrumentering A/S in Stavanger, Norway, who will supply the complete metering system to the Snohvit Project. First stop on the way is Randaberg, outside Stavanger, where it will be integrated with a three-stream 12-inch turbine meter skid at the works of Holta and Haland Instrumentering A/S. The prover, designed to operate over a flowrate of 400 to 2860 cubic metres/hour on a low viscosity condensate, has an operating pressure of 6.4 barg and temperature range between 5 to 30 degrees Celsius. Due to the aggressive nature of the product all the valves and small bore piping were made from stainless steel, and all large diameter carbon steel piping and components were lined with Saekaphen baked phenolic resin. The LNG plant processes gas received from the Snohvit area that comprises the Snohvit, Albatross and Askeladd fields in the Barents Sea, some 140km NW of Hammerfest. Comprising mainly natural gas, with small quantities of condensate, the separated condensate is stored in a 75,000 cubic metre tank at ambient temperature, while awaiting shipment from the products terminal. It is estimated that the fields contain 17.9 million cubic metres of condensate, which will be shipped over the life of the plant from 2005 to 2035, at a rate of between 500,000 and 900,000 standard cubic metres per annum.
