The city of Murray, Utah, USA, has inked a contract to build another methane gas plant at the Trans-Jordan Landfill. The new methane gas project will initially be 1.5 times bigger than the plant at the Salt Lake Valley landfill and has the potential to triple in size, Dan Stireman, Murray’s energy services manager said. Once the Trans-Jordan plant is up and running, 13% of Murray’s energy will come from renewable resources. Murray officials believe the trash at the Trans-Jordan landfill will start powering homes by the end of 2008.
