MSS publishes revised ANS for steel pipeline flanges

The Manufacturers Standardization Society (MSS) of the Valve and Fittings Industry announces that ANSI/MSS SP-44-2019, Steel Pipeline Flanges, has been approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a revised American National Standard (ANS) and published by MSS.

Standard Practice (SP)-44 has served as an industry norm for over 68 years and first became ANSI approved in 2014; covering pressure-temperature ratings, materials, dimensions, tolerances, marking, and testing for steel pipeline flanges. The welding neck type flanges are forged steel, and blind flanges made from either forged steel or steel plate.

In this revision of SP-44, MSS members worked with a task group commissioned by the API Committee on Standardization of Oilfield Equipment and Materials (CSOEM), Subcommittee 21 (Materials), to thoroughly review and provide proposed enhancements to the MSS Committee Task Group charged with revising the Standard Practice. SP-44 continues to be maintained under the consensus of MSS Technical Committee 110, Steel Flanges & Flanged Fittings.

The revised ANSI-approved American National Standard edition, ANSI/MSS SP-44-2019, is now available from authorized U.S. and global distributors. It has been published in an electronic version (PDF) and in book format.
