GF Piping Systems launched its new series of type 578 butterfly valves in the dimensions DN50 to DN300 for use in chemical and water treatment applications. The newly developed glass fibre reinforced plastic lug housing convinces with highest stability, low weight and good corrosion resistance.
Compared to metal valves of the same dimension, the type 578 butterfly valves weigh up to 50% less due to the use of glass fibre reinforced polypropylene as housing material. Stainless steel (1.4408) threaded lug inserts ensure that the valve can be centred perfectly between the flanges. The combination of materials provides maximum strength and optimised weight. The type 578 butterfly valves are corrosion and UV resistant.
The new butterfly valve uses the double eccentric operating principle. The double eccentricity combined with the pressure support of the profile seal leads to a 50% lower actuation torque compared to centric valves. The disc does not touch the seal in the open position. This principle reduces the contact surfaces between medium and elastomers significantly. This is particularly important for applications in critical areas such as in the chemical process industry.
The type 578 butterfly valves are available in PVC-U, PVC-C, ABS, PP-H and PVDF in the dimensions DN50 / 2’’ up to DN300 / 12’’. Seals are available in EPDM, FPM or PTFE.
