Norsk Hydro awards contract

Norsk Hydro ASA and partners awarded a USD 35 million contract to Stolt Offshore SA to lay two 125 km, 6 in. pipelines from a gas processing plant under development at Nyhamna on Norway’s west coast to Ormen Lange field in the Norwegian Sea. Stolt Offshore also will lay a 3.6 km, 6 in. pipeline between two production manifolds in Ormen Lange. The natural gas-condensate field, discovered in August 1997, is slated to begin producing 2.5 bcfd in October 2007. The USD 9.5 billion project is the largest in Norway’s history. The field lies on Block 6305/5 more than 100 km northwest of Aukra, Norway, in 3300 feet of water. Reserves are 14 tcf of gas and 180 million bbl of condensate. Participants in Ormen Lange are Norsk Hydro, AS Norske Shell, Statoil ASA, Esso Norge AS, Conoco- Phillips, BP Amoco Norge AS, Norway’s state Petoro AS, and Gassco, the Norwegian gas transport operator.
