Close collaboration between design engineers at K Controls (UK) and those of a major international pneumatic actuator manufacturer has resulted in a new monitoring and control system for offshore use. The control system obtains a 4-20mA position signal via a K Controls EExd Control Monitor and then positions the actuator via pulsed outputs to two EExd solenoid valves. The Control Monitor and solenoids will be supplied as a pre-wired assembly and K Controls will obtain a variation to their ATEX certificate to cover this work. The first units are scheduled to be supplied to a platform in the North Sea in July.
