Passion for technology at Maintenance NEXT

By David Sear and Mark Casey

Held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the Maintenance NEXT event proved to be a real focal point and provided a great insight into the future of the industry. For info: www.maintenancenext.nl

The three-day event comprised a major exhibition as well as interactive technology seminars and technology displays. In short, visitors were treated to a broad pallet of both products and expertise.

A quick walk around the expo was sufficient to show the diversity of products on offer: it was possible to review everything from spanners to software and from electric scooters to infra-red cameras.

For Valve World, we went in search of those companies active in the flow control sector, and asked them more about how they were servicing the maintenance market.

PM for all!
At the Rotork stand, I met up with Richard Harvey, who is the Business Development Manager for SVM and SIL Applications. Richard explained that in addition to providing Predictive Maintenance capabilities for electrically-driven valves, Rotork is also able to offer such technology to pneumatic and hydraulically-driven units as well. He also revealed just what he was doing on a recent trip to Australia and why he enjoys his work so much.

EXPERTPlus can reduce maintenance costs
Bernard Wiek (Account Manager at SAMSON Regeltechniek) kindly explained how EXPERTPlus can help end users to find the best maintenance solutions. This system can deliver cost benefits thanks to lower downtimes and process optimization, he emphasized. He also added that EXPERTPlus is very user friendly, with for example coloured lights being used to clearly indicate asset status.

Lockouts enhance plant safety
Constance Titaley (Marketing Manager Asfra BV) discussed how lock-outs for valves can help ensure safety on the work-floor. She further explained that Asfra communicates directly with both the wholesalers and the end users so they better understand what products and systems will meet their needs. Interesting fact: each MasterLock lock and key are unique and can be registered as a further safeguard.

Investing in stocks
A new building offering 5000 m2 of valves and 3500 pallet places is a clear sign of how confident SODECO is in the future. Director Gerard Penteman added that SODECO has also invested in new valve stocks, and confirms the company is looking to expand with new sales offices in areas which can deliver opportunities.

Human Centered Design
Bert Poort (Account Manager Systems Plantweb) explains why Emerson Process Management has put so much time and effort into Human Centered Design. This can help plants in four key areas: engineering, operations, management and maintenance. Amongst other things, Bert discussed developments regarding wireless technology and electronic marshalling. (Dutch language).
