Plenty to admire at Pumps & Valves 2012

The Pumps & Valves 2012 event, which was held on 18 and 19 April in Antwerp, Belgium, was a focal point for many industries and flow control experts in Belgium, Holland, and even Northern France.

This, the 15th edition, was an efficient way for visitors to get a complete overview of all the technologies and innovations in the field of industrial pumps, valves and seals, as well as associated equipment such as filters, mixers, stirrers, piping, etc.

One important change was the co-location with the Maintenance 2012 trade show, which helped boost visitor numbers up to 4381, an increase of 16% compared to the 2010 show. Other new features at Pump & Valves included the learnShops: short, practice-oriented seminars on the most common problems with pump systems — and the appropriate solutions to them.

As you can see below, Valve World’s Online Team spent two action-packed days at the show, interviewing as many standholders as possible about the latest flow control products and services.

The next edition of Pumps & Valves Antwerp will be organised on 26 & 27 March 2014. If you cannot wait that long, then sister show Pumps & Valve Rotterdam will be held on 2 & 3 October 2013.
Butterfly valve with unusual face-to-face dimensions
Spotting a rather unusual butterfly valve at the Bray Controls Benelux stand, your TV Team quizzed General Manager Jos De Jong about the rationale for this special item. At the end of the interview he also pointed out that 2012 is a special year for Bray for two headline reasons….
How the right products can reduce fugitive emissions
With national and international standards becoming ever more stringent, companies are keen for technologies that can help reduce fugitive emissions. According to NMT Techniek President Mr Ru Cleveringa, spring energized packings are a great option, as they are maintenance friendly, have a long-life and are also readily retrofitted to valves in situ.
The value of effective valve maintenance
Antwerp is well-known as a centre for industry, but as plants mature there is an increasing need for maintenance. Fabricom for example has seen its valve repair activities flourish during the past twenty years, says Division Manager Philippe Deneve. Over 7,000 valves were repaired in 2011, and night-time call-outs were not unknown.
Looking to be a global player
The Pumps & Valves show was chosen by Chinese company Stone Valve as a platform to meet both valve distributors and buyers. This valve-maker is fully focussed on exports, and is determined to become a global player with its products.
Digital communication has a lot to offer
Auma Benelux Sales Engineer is convinced of the many advantages that fieldbus systems have to offer, such as simpler communications and wiring. However, he says it is important to arrange for plant technician training to avoid problems eg, in fault-finding.
Repairing pump and valve corrosion
It is surely every maintenance engineer’s nightmare …. equipment that seemed to be running perfectly starts to show signs of problems due to internal corrosion or erosion. Fortunately there is an answer, explains Jaap Oversier. His company can repair corroded metal internals with a range of long-lasting coatings.
That deep-red colour is coming to Valve World 2012
Some colours are irrevocably associated with a particular supplier or brand. A deep-red control valve, for example, immediately brings Masonelian to mind. As this chance meeting with Events Specialist Marketing Communications Marie-Claude Torre revealed, visitors to the Valve World Expo would be advised to look out for some exciting new “deep-red products”.
Pumps & Valves going from strength to strength
Dieter Wilssens, Project Coordinator for easyFairs, talks about the latest Pumps & Valves show. Visitor numbers are up, thanks in part to the co-location with Maintenance 2012. Also, the excellent Belgian hospitality might just have played a role, too…
