PMC contract

A Foster Wheeler Global Engineering and Construction Group subsidiary has received a project management consultancy (PMC) contract from 2Co Power for the Don Valley power project in Yorkshire, UK. The project is part of a carbon capture, utilisation and storage scheme (CCS). It includes a 900MW installed capacity integrated coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant, CO2 transportation, and storage, combined with enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
The facility will be designed to capture CO2, some 90% of the carbon in the fossil fuel, which will then be compressed and transported through an underground pipeline being developed by National Grid. The carbon will then be taken to the North Sea, where it will be injected into selected oil fields. These oil fields are intended to provide storage for the CO2, and the injection of the substance through EOR will allow for a larger proportion of the oil reserves to be recovered.
The scope of work includes development of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract package, as well as engineering strategy and provision of other development support to 2Co. 2Co said that after the final investment decision is taken in mid-2013, Foster Wheeler will manage the EPC contract on behalf of the company. 2Co expects the new plant to be operational by the end of 2016.
