Rotork’s IQPro multi-turn and quarter-turn “intelligent” electric actuators and Skilmatic SI self-contained electro-hydraulic actuators are being used in the Botlek Tank Terminal (BTT) in Rotterdam for automated flow control, as well as safety applications.
BTT features 34 storage tanks, which offer a combined storage capacity of 200,000m³ and are used for clean fuels, edible oils and biodiesel.
The site uses more than 250 IQPro actuators for operating the valves that control the routine movement of liquids around the site. 55 Skilmatic SI devices have also been installed on valves that provide emergency shutdown protection from accidents and spillages.
Additionally, the actuators are monitored and controlled using fully redundant Rotork Pakscan digital bus loops, which are linked to the BTT’s central SCADA system via three Pakscan P3 master stations.
The key benefits of product application are Skilmatic SI actuators include integral circuitry that can receive a separately hardwired discrete emergency shutdown signal, which moves the device to the pre-determined safe position. Also, these can still perform this function in the event of a power failure.
