Severn Glocon supplies African gas plant

Severn Glocon (UK) is supplying a valve package solution to a critical natural gas production application in Africa. The order involves 16 carbon steel Series 5000 severe service globe control valves in sizes from 3″ to 10″, pressure rated at up to ANSI Class 2500, together with a 20″ ANSI Class 600 angle valve for emergency blowdown duties on the Marathon Alba onshore gas facility (Phase 2A) in Equatorial Guinea. Due to the very high pressure drops that will be experienced by most of the valves, they are fitted with Severn Glocon’s MLT (Multi-Labyrinth Trim) seats, rather than conventional concentric cages. The MLT solution is a high-technology design that enables a single valve to handle very high flow levels and pressure drops, while keeping velocity and noise levels within the conventional limits specified by the end user. For this particular project, some of the valves are also customised for cryogenic service. The Alba contract continues Severn Glocon’s long association with Marathon on offshore and onshore hydrocarbon projects, although it is the first order to be received for Marathon from Mustang Engineering at Houston by Severn Glocon’s USA company.
